Leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-West Caucus at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. (Comrade) Joseph Iranola Akinlaja with his hundreds of thousands of supporters have dumped PDP for Zenith Labour Party.
The Federal parliamentarian made the official declaration on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Chelsea Hotel in Abuja alongside with the former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko who was unavoidably absent at the venue.
Former National Chairman of Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu MNI, OFR was however announced as the party’s acting National Chairman, whilst Dr Kayode Ajulo, former Labour Party scribe also registered his presence at the high profile gathering.
Akinlaja who is currently seeking reelection for another term in the House of Representatives for the Ondo East and West Federal Constituency seat will now be contesting on the platform of Zenith Labour Party.
Similarly, Dr Mimiko who had earlier declared his presidential ambition whilst he was in Labour Party would equally be making Zenith Labour Party as a veritable platform to pursue his dream.
Mimiko and Akinlaja are of the belief that the effect of the current economic reality, unprecedented level of division, distrust at individual and communal levels, were of great concern to them.
Both leaders further added that the ability to envision great ideas and demonstrable track record, rather than place and circumstances of birth should be the most compelling basis for investing candidates with power.
Akinlaja is a ranking member of Federal House of Representatives, representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream, a position he’s been holding since inception of the 8th Assembly.
Before he delved into active politics he was a Labour leader of note. He rose to the position of Deputy National President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and General Secretary of Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG.
Consequently, the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD a branch of NUPENG) made him their Grand Patron/Technical Consultant. At some point, Akinlaja held sway as Deputy National Chairman of Labour Party, under Chief Nwanyanwu.

Divine Change, As Apostle Suleman Blesses Spain; Lagos, New York Next

“Christians have no reason to be scared of ‘ember’ months”, servant of God, Apostle Suleman had cheered his eager audience at Sala Museo De Artista, venue of the 2018 Spain edition of The Supernatural crusade which held between Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th of September in Valencia.

Despite the widely held and even promoted notion that the last months of the year connote danger with all kinds of negative significance, the ‘Oracle of God’ waives that the ‘ember months’ phenomenon is just one of those myths handed down by man to mankind. Thus, he prayed; “anyone marked for death these ‘ember months’ that start with September, I stand as the Oracle of God to make a public declaration; you are preserved, your family is preserved and all that concerns you are preserved in Jesus Mighty Name. If you think you have seen God’s blessings, just wait till October because God has prepared a shocking and mouth opening miracle for you. The so-called Ember Months are your moments of level zero to level hero. Even the devil can’t stop your lifting.”

Calming further any worry his congregation might be nursing, Apostle Suleman assures that as long as God be with man, nobody, no evil or institution will ever successfully work against him. “That’s why I walk into anywhere, any day, month or year with assurance of my safety, knowing that nothing can happen to me as long as God protects me,” the firebrand preacher states with a tone of faith.

Preaching, the servant of God affirmed that, the strength of prayer is the depth of the Word of God, adding that, you don’t know prayer until you know the Word. “You cannot tie a request to a scripture, and not see a future. Brethren, if you must see answers, you must be deep in prayer and the Word.” Praying for the country while adorning the Spanish flag, Apostle Suleman thus demanded that Spain be guaranteed Kingdom deliverance from evil onslaughts, and be divinely protected.

In the two-day Spain mission that has now come to be known by participants as ‘Gospel of Change’ given its positive fallouts, the testimonies were amazing; from couples who were blessed beyond imagination, successful battles against afflictions, physical and financial transformations, complete life restoration, while every other seemingly impossible was made possible by prayer and special anointing. At the end of the soul-inspiring crusade where many received supernatural deliverance, upliftment and supernatural prosperity, it was all songs of praise for Apostle Suleman for coming to Spain based on the amazing change of names and stories experienced by the participants.

Meanwhile, The Supernatural train moves next to Lagos between the 27th and 28th, 2018, at Field 1, Police College, Ikeja; next to New York between November 20th and 21st , 2018 at New Covenant Dominion Cathedral, Boston Road, Bronx. The Uganda edition holds between the 23rd and 24th of November, 2018 at the Multipurpose Hall Lugog, Uma Show Ground, Kampala.

“I’m In Pain”…Missing Gen. Alkali’s 93 Years Old Mother Cries

For over three weeks, it has been a gloomy mood at Unguwar Bolawa, Potiskum, some 104 kilometres from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, where family members, friends and neighbours are yet to come to terms with the sudden disappearance of Major-General Mohammadu Alkali (retd). Residents of the area, which is in the heart of the ancient city, were sitting in groups, discussing the mystery surrounding the unfortunate incident. In the famous Alkali House, DAILY TRUST

Gen. Alkali’s aged mother
General Alkali; missing

met the 93-year-old Hajiya Halima Alkali Umaru, mother of the general, the immediate past Chief of Administration of the Nigerian Army, who is her 8th child. She spoke about the disappearance of her son and appealed to the government to find him by every means possible.

The Nigerian Army said they were doing their best to find your missing son. Are you satisfied with the operation?

My son is a government ‘property.’ So, it will be rude for anyone to tell government what to do. Whatever they are doing to get him back is appreciated. What I want is to know his whereabouts. Was he kidnapped for ransom or what? My appeal is for the military to intensify the search. I just want to hear his voice.

Has anybody told or contacted you since he got missing?

At times my mind tells me that he is not in the hands of kidnappers because since he got missing, silence followed and no ransom was demanded for his release. Let me tell you one thing, ever since I was born, I have never found myself in a difficult situation like this. I’m 93 years old, now approaching, 94  but this is the most irritating moment of my life.

My son has rendered 35 years of selfless service to the nation. It’s inhuman for anyone to perpetrate such an evil act on my son. I need government assistance to recover my missing son immediately so that I will finally get  peace of mind. I know God will intervene in revealing where he is. I have surrendered everything to  the Almighty Allah.

Those behind this inhuman act may not have done it to my son if they knew my age and my current condition. They should sympathise with me. I beg of them to release my son. I am too old to bear a heavy burden like this.

How did you receive the news of your son’s disappearance?

It is with great shock. Ever since I received the news I barely eat. My legs became too weak to walk. I lost two of my children, but not in such manner. I saw their corpses before we buried them. Alkali’s own is more painful because I still don’t know what happened to him.

When last did you speak with him?

The last time I tried to speak with him was the day he got missing. I called his phone to hear his voice but it couldn’t get through. I called his wife to connect me with him, but she said he must be driving to Bauchi. She promised to call him when he arrived.

Did you have something to tell him when you called on that day?

I called him because I heard the news about the attacks in Borno and I wanted to sympathise with him and scold him as usual on why they were posting new recruits to Maiduguri. I did not know that he had met with trouble too.

We have surrendered everything to the Almighty Allah and we know he will answer our prayers.

Prayer is the symbol of Alkali’s family. We don’t cry over death or any calamity that befalls us. I have taken everything in good faith because we believe in God whenever something bad happens to us.

When last did he visit you?

The last time he visited me was when the Army commissioned a water project in Fika town.He went back to Abuja after the event and returned days later for his friend’s daughter’s wedding. The wedding took place here in Potiskum. He sat beside me on the mat. I was telling him that some people needed his assistance after applying for recruitment into the Nigerian Army.

What fond memory of him do you have to share?

He’s very patient and obedient to me.

Can you tell us about his childhood days?

My son was born talented, simple, kind, obedient, respectful and honest. He hated corruption, right from childhood. As a toddler, he was very healthy and physically fit for all the assignments you gave him. He didn’t fight, and when he went to play with his friends, sometimes they beat him, but he still joined them to play the next day. No one ever reported him to me for doing wrong. He didn’t cry, even when he was sick. I thank God for my children. They respect me and do what I always want them to do.

How did he treat you as mother?

I don’t know how to express how he cared about me. He would always ask what I wanted. He insisted that he would furnish my bedroom. I resisted because I was born into an Islamic scholar’s family that doesn’t believe in materialism. My father was a judge and cleric. Because of his simplicity, he would not sit on the chair nor sleep on the mattress. He administered judgement sitting on the mat. I cannot change my lifestyle. I’m only interested in entering paradise where it is eternal. Life in this world is temporary. I don’t need here but paradise. I don’t have any furniture in my bedroom because I don’t want it.

What type of advice did you give him?

I keep advising them to be patient with everything in this world. I thank God that my children are not interested in worldly things, they don’t engage in corruption, they don’t temper with government money and are not fetish. Whatever happens to them, they always resort to God. I am appealing to the government not to relent in its efforts to rescue my son.

Farmers/Herdsmen Clash: Alaafin Installs ‘Seriki Fulani of Oyo’

The President of Jamu Nati Fulbe, a Fulani socio-cultural organization in the South-West geopolitical zone including Kwara, Alhaji Saliu Abdulkadir, had for years preoccupied himself with rallying all Fulani nationalities in the heart of the South-West especially in Oyo State where he is based, to live peacefully with their Yoruba inhabitants.

Despite the many challenges of farmers-herders’ crisis which also spread to his domain at Gangan in Ibarapa area of Oyo South Senatorial district, he has remained unwavering in his campaign for peaceful and harmonious coexistence among the Fulani and Yoruba residents in the state.p

Reports have it that Alhaji Abdulkadir had on several occasions raised alarm over alleged killing of cows belonging to his people. He said hundreds of cows worth millions of naira have been lost. This development notwithstanding, he continues to encourage his people to be calm and not take the law into their hands. This, according to observers, is responsible for the enduring peace in his domain in recent times.

His efforts at entrenching peace and harmony among members of the Fulani community and Yoruba farmers however paid off recently when the Alaafin of Oyo, Alayeluwa Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi appointed him as the Seriki Fulani of Oyo State. The appointment and subsequent turbaning in August was described as recognition of his efforts at rallying the Fulanis to live peacefully with their Yoruba neighbours.

In fact, it was a glamorous turbaning which attracted thousands of Fulanis from the nooks and crannies of Oyo state. Many traditional rulers from the state were on ground to be part of the epoch-making ceremony. Our correspondent reports that in Oke Ogun alone, eight monarchs in attendance. Also, the Asigangan of Gangan also led traditional rulers in Ibarapa to the ceremony.

There were also colourful displays by Fulani artists as the monarch turbaned their leader. The excitement, glamour and displays, to the Fulani community in Oyo state were unforgettable.

The Seriki, in an interview, said, “The appointment came about as a result of clamour by the Fulanis to deepen their relationship with the traditional institution in the state under the supreme leadership of Alayeluwa, the Alaafin of Oyo. The Alaafin now decided that I deserved to be given the appointment because of my tireless efforts in bringing the people together. I have always been engaging our people on the need to foster peace and harmony with the Yoruba indigenes.

“Alaafin also reiterated this during the turbaning ceremony that his interest lies in promoting peace and harmony. I also assured the revered monarch that this appointment is a challenge for all the Fulanis in this state and we will try as much as possible to relate more with our Yoruba neighbours. This will strengthen our friendship and we would no longer see ourselves and the Yoruba as enemies. By the grace of God, this is a task that must be achieved most importantly to end hostilities between farmers and herders.”

Following his installation, the Seriki said he had called for meeting of all Fulanis during which a courtesy call was made to the Alaafin to appreciate him on the appointment and to further assure him of the readiness of the Fulani community to give peace a chance at all times. And in coordinating the peace building efforts, he said the Fulani inhabitants had been segmented into four.

He added that he has however appointed Sarki representing different districts in the state including Oke Ogun, Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Ibarapa. “The appointments are all encompassing, bringing on board all the categories of Fulanis in these areas. The leaders would now in turn brief me from time to time on developments in their domains,” he said.

The Seriki explained further that the Fulanis in Oyo State are more united to pursue issues of common interest. He also adds that the Fulanis would take advantage of their numerical strength to vote in the best candidates in the forthcoming 2019 elections.

Apostle Johnson & Reverend Lizzy Suleman

Servant of God and senior pastor at Omega Fire Ministries (OFM) worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has urged Nigerians to pray rather than celebrate as the nation marks her 58th Independence anniversary on Monday, October 1st, 2018.

Apostle Suleman, in a solemn anniversary message delivered at the church service on Sunday, September 30, 2018, said; “October 1st is for prayers not celebration. Nigeria has nothing to celebrate yet. Only fools would sing the national anthem on empty stomach.”

The firebrand preacher who was obviously miffed about the state of leadership in Nigeria, stressed that, “leadership in Nigeria is now all about money and violence. This is a very sad and improper departure from the intentions of our founding fathers”, noting that, “we don’t have democracy yet but civilian rule.”

The servant of God asserted that presently, Nigeria lacks proper leadership structure,  as both the ruling party and the opposition are the source of the nation’s present challenges.

“Every 20 years in Nigeria, a new shift takes place. Is it the death of 10 family members that occurred a few days ago that we are celebrating?,” stated the respected cleric who was marveled at the intense of hunger and anger emanating from the suffering masses.

“Don’t celebrate, stay indoors and pray for Nigeria”, he said.

The zonal chairman of the union, Dr. Ade Adejumo, told newsmen in Ibadan that that was the position of Federal Government’s team led by Dr Wale Babalakin when the team visited the union at the University of of Ibadan, Oyo State.

He said the union was also kicking against government’s plan to establish education bank where students would seek loans to go attend public universities.

Adejumo warned that unless the government honoured the memorandum of action it signed with the union in 2017, it could not guarantee industrial peace and harmony on university campuses.

He listed the issues in the memorandum, which according to him could cause an industrial action, as including “collapse of the renegotiation of 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, non-release of over two trillion naira meant for the revitalization of decayed infrastructure in public varsities (2014-2018), failure to release the forensic audit on the disbursement of Earned Academic Allowances covering 2009 to 2017, failure to pay arrears of shortfall in accrued salaries in Universities that have been verified under PICA, failure to release operational license of NUPEMCO, and needless proliferation of state universities.”

Late Funke Adedoyin

28th September, 2018 was a very bad day for associates, friends and family members of Kwara state female politician, Princess Funke Adedoyin.

The news of her sudden and shocking death shook the entire social and political circles of the state; many are indeed yet to get over the shock. The late Adeoyin who was until her death the representative of Irepodun/Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero federal constituency in the house of representatives  had not really enjoyed good health for the past few months.  She eventually gave up the ghost in Abuja on Friday.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed who through his Chief Press Secretary, Wahab Oba  described her death as shocking and devastating also  said the state has lost an outstanding representative. The late lawmaker was according to him full of passion to serve her community and uplift the people of her constituency, Governor Ahmed recalled that Hon. Adedoyin during her stint at the lower chamber attracted federal presence to Irepodun/Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero federal constituency and empowered a good number of people with a view to improving their economic status. While commiserating with the immediate family of Adedoyin, her constituents and the entire people of the state over the irreparable loss, the Governor also sympathized with her colleagues in the House of Representatives, stating  that the state would sorely missed her quality representation.  Hon. Funke Adedoyin is the daughter of the business mogul, Prince  Samuel Adedoyin.

Hence, it should not come as a surprise that McKinsey estimated ecommerce spending in Nigeria at $12 billion and projected it to reach $75 billion in revenues per annum by 2025. Interesting!

While harping on the convenience online service delivery and ecommerce have introduced our lives as Nigerians, we must not forget to recognise the role played by Jumia, Nigeria’s No.1 shopping destination in making Nigerians believe that they can order and perform transactions online.

How has online service delivery promoted convenience?

The salubrious thing about buying or purchasing items online is that you do not need to belabour yourself about going to a store or market. So how has online service delivery promoted convenience?

Hospitality Industry

For the hospitality industry, Jumia’s hotel and flight services has developed a solid platform for Nigerians to book their packages, flight and hotels. In fact, the platform just recently launched a flight marketplace-which is the first in Africa, to enable their teeming customers to get the best available price in the flight market. It was discovered that the flight market in Africa is basically offline. So, wherever you are in the country, Jumia has over 9,000 hotels for you to book ensuring that you are not stranded. The keyword here is the convenience. You do not need to start searching for a hotel in the middle of nowhere to book a hotel room. We all know it is risky.

Meanwhile. you can also order food online if you are not open to cooking or visiting the restaurant. Again, Jumia’s food services got you covered. You can order food in any of your favourite restaurants and it is delivered to either your home, office or wherever you are with the speed of light.

Transport industry

When you visit a cinema or a place of interest, you see taxi drivers calling to pick them. Within minutes you stepped out, a clean-looking Toyota corolla car is parked in front of you and you majestically walk-in. The taxi-driver is filled with contempt. This is how Uber and Taxify are disrupting the transport industry.

The convenience of using online service delivery is not only restricted to the industries highlighted above. It has had an impact on others like agriculture and health etc.

How Much Water Do You Really Need to Drink?

Overview

You may have heard that you should aim to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. How much you should actually drink is more individualized than you might think.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends that men drink at least 104 ounces of water per day, which is 13 cups. They say women should drink at least 72 ounces, which is 9 cups.

Still, the answer to exactly how much water you should drink isn’t so simple.

Water recommendations

While the eight glasses rule is a good start, it isn’t based on solid, well-researched information.

Your body weight is made up of 60 percent water. Every system in your body needs water to function. Your recommended intake is based on factors including your sex, age, activity level, and others, such as if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.

Adults

The current IOM recommendation for people ages 19 and older is around 131 ounces for men and 95 ounces for women. This is your overall fluid intake per day, including anything you eat or drink containing water in it, like fruits or vegetables.

Of this total, men should get around 13 cups from beverages. For women, it’s 9 cups.

Children

Recommendations for kids have a lot to do with age.

Girls and boys between ages 4 and 8 years should drink 40 ounces per day, or 5 cups.

This amount increases to 56 to 64 ounces, or 7 to 8 cups, by ages 9 to 13 years.

For ages 14 to 18, the recommended water intake is 64 to 88 ounces, or 8 to 11 cups.

Women of reproductive age

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, your recommendations change.

Pregnant women of all ages should aim to get 80 ounces, or ten 8-ounce glasses of water each day.

Breastfeeding women may need to up their total water intake to 104 ounces, or 13 cups.

Demographic Daily recommended amount of water (from drinks)
children 4–8 years old 5 cups, or 40 total ounces
children 9–13 years old 7–8 cups, or 56–64 total ounces
children 14–18 years old 8–11 cups, or 64–88 total ounces
men, 19 years and older 13 cups, or 104 total ounces
women, 19 years and older 9 cups, or 72 total ounces
pregnant women 10 cups, or 80 total ounces
breastfeeding women 13 cups, or 104 total ounces

Other considerations

You may also need to drink more water if you live in a hot climate, exercise often, or have a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting.

Add an additional 1.5 to 2.5 cups of water each day if you exercise. You may need to add even more if you work out for longer than an hour.

You may need more water if you live in a hot climate.

If you live at an elevation greater than 8,200 feet above sea level, you may also need to drink more.

When you have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, your body loses more fluids than usual, so drink more water. Your doctor may even suggest taking drinks with electrolytes to keep your electrolyte balance more stable.

Why do you need water?

Water is important for most processes your body goes through in a day. When you drink water, you replenish your stores. Without enough water, your body and its organs can’t function properly.

Benefits of drinking water include:

keeping your body temperature within a normal range

lubricating and cushioning your joints protecting your spine and other tissues helping you eliminate waste through urine, sweat, and bowel movements

Drinking enough water can also help you look your best. For example, water keeps your skin looking healthy. Skin is your body’s largest organ. When you drink plenty of water, you keep it healthy and hydrated.

And because water contains zero calories, water can be an excellent tool for managing your weight, as well.

Risks

There are risks of drinking too little or too much water.

Dehydration

Your body is constantly using and losing fluids through actions like sweating and urinating. Dehydration happens when your body loses more water or fluid than it takes in.

Symptoms of dehydration can range from being extremely thirsty to feeling fatigued. You may also notice you aren’t urinating as frequently or that your urine is dark.

In children, dehydration may cause a dry mouth and tongue, lack of tears while crying, and fewer wet diapers than usual.

Dehydration may lead to:

confusion or unclear thinking

mood changes

overheating

constipation

kidney stone formation

shock

Mild dehydration may be treated by drinking more water and other fluids.

If you have severe dehydration, you may need treatment at the hospital. Your doctor will likely give you intravenous (IV) fluids and salts until your symptoms go away.

Hyponatremia

Drinking too much water may be dangerous to your health as well.

When you drink too much, the extra water can dilute the electrolytes in your blood. Your sodium levels decrease and can lead to what is called hyponatremia.

Symptoms include:

confusion

headache

fatigue

nausea or vomiting

irritability

muscle spasmscramps, or weakness

seizures

coma

Water intoxication hyponatremia is uncommon. People with a smaller build and children are at a higher risk of developing this condition. So are active people, like marathon runners, who drink large quantities of water in a short period of time.

If you’re at risk due to drinking large quantities of water for exercise, consider drinking a sports drink that contains sodium and other electrolytes to help replenish the electrolytes you lose through sweating.

The takeaway

Staying hydrated goes beyond just the water you drink. Foods make up around 20 percent of your total fluid requirements each day. Along with drinking your 9 to 13 daily cups of water, try to eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

Some foods with high water content include:

watermelon

spinach

cucumbers

green peppers

berries

cauliflower

radishes

celery

Tips for drinking enough water

You may be able to meet your water intake goal by drinking when you’re thirsty and with your meals.

If you need some extra help consuming enough water, check out these tips for drinking more:

Try carrying a water bottle with you wherever you go, including around the office, at the gym, and even on road trips. Amazon has a good selection of water bottles.

Focus on fluids. You don’t have to drink plain water to meet your hydration needs. Other good sources of fluid include milk, pure fruit juices, tea, and broth.

Skip sugary drinks. While you can get fluid from soda, juice, and alcohol, these beverages have high calorie contents. It’s still smart to choose water whenever possible.

Drink water while out to eat. Drink a glass of water instead of ordering another beverage. You can save some cash and lower the total calories of your meal too.

Add some flair to your water by squeezing in fresh lemon or lime juice.

If you’re working out hard, consider drinking a sports drink that has electrolytes to help replace the ones you lose through sweating. Shop for sports drinks.
