Ex-Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan’s plan to represent Delta South Senatorial District in 2019 has continued to elicit excitements from all quarters of the senatorial district.

Latest information has it that a vibrant youth group in the region has openly endorsed the former governor’s move, declaring that he is the most suitable person for the job.

Members of the Itsekiri Youth Vanguard, a political pressure group in the Itsekiri zone of the district who met recently resolved that the group would rally support for the politician who has remained the beacon of hope for the Deltans three years after leaving office as the executive governor.

According to the leader of the Itsekiri Youth Vanguard, Mr. Amjuoritse Temisanre, it was not the custom of the organization to be quick in taking sides with political aspirants but the legacy left by Dr. Uduaghan after eight years in office as the governor of Delta State has changed all that.

He said the efforts by the ex-governor to make the people from every region in the state comfortable led to the development of their region. “Dr. Uduaghan is our man, the man of the people, the man of everybody. He knows our plight and he will do everything to help us.”

“When he was there for eight years, there was so much development around us. We are solidly behind him in 2019,” Temisanre declared.

Drums of support to the former governor’s ambition so far have been overwhelming basically due to his popularity among the people of the region.

Ambode Extends Agric-Ishawo Road Project To Arepo

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday approved the extension of ongoing Agric-Ishawo dual carriageway road project to Arepo in Ogun State, saying the development became imperative in view of the determination to rev up the economic integration of South Western States.

Speaking while embarking on an extensive inspection of major ongoing projects in the Ikorodu division of the State which lasted till late in the evening, Governor Ambode said the projects would be delivered as part of efforts to make the sub-urban areas in the State economically viable and livable, thereby making life comfortable for residents and boosting the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the State.

Addressing scores of residents of Owutu and Ishawo who had trooped out to receive him, the Governor urged them to exercise patience and understanding with the projects, assuring that more dividends of democracy would be spread to the axis.

He said: “From Owutu Junction to the boundary of Lagos State in Ishawo is 7.5km and we will finish this project between March and April next year. Even before we finish this project the businesses here have started improving and the value of landed properties has gone up.

“Now, the Chairman of this Local Government has just spoken to us and we have also agreed that in order for us to improve on the economic integration of South Western States, we will extend from Lagos State boundary to Arepo in Ogun State and we will do 5.5km to join the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.”

The Governor, who embarked on the tour with top government functionaries, said as government was doing road projects to open up the axis, other areas of the State would also benefit, thereby improving commerce and reducing travel time.

“The same thing as we are doing it in Ikorodu, the Lagos-Epe road also will be joined to the Lagos State boundary in Mojoda with the Ijebu Ode axis to link the Ijebu Ode-Ore Road.

“We are going to do the same thing and make sure that the road we are doing in the Mile 2-Okokomaiko Expressway, we commence the next phase that goes from Okokomaiko to Seme Border. So in that wise, we would have connected Badagry, Ikorodu and Epe with all the neighbouring States and we will improve the economy of Lagos and make sure that all our people that are living in the sub-urban areas are able to live comfortably well in those places and the economy in those areas also improves.

“I just want to appeal to our people to exercise patience as we do this. We are doing it for you. We know that you want more than roads, we are bringing shopping mall to Ikorodu; we are bringing cinema; we are bringing arts theatre and we are also bringing recreational park,” Governor Ambode said.

While inspecting progress of work on the 32 Metric Tonnes Rice Mill and Light Industrial Park in Imota which would accommodate those to be relocated from Sabo Industrial Park, the Governor expressed satisfaction with level of work, saying the Rice Mill was another fulfillment of promise to produce rice locally on a large scale.

“We think that we are on the right course. People would recall that we used to have a 2.5 Metric Tonnes per hour rice mill in this particular site. We have removed that to pave way for the new 32 Metric Tonnes per hour rice mill and as we can all see since the last time we were here that there has been a lot of progress being made by the contractor and also the consultant.

“We can see that this is a huge task for us to fulfill our promise that we would be producing our own Lake Rice by ourselves and I think I am impressed by the level of work I have seen and we should be able to start production in this rice mill in the first quarter of 2019.

“In addition to that, this Imota Light Industrial Park is to replace the Sabo Light Industrial Park that we are closing down. We have decided to move the Light Industrial Park into Imota here to give the economic hub that we want to give Imota the right picture and also turn part of the closed Sabo Industrial Park into our Tech hub for us to be able to integrate the new acquisition of land that we have in Sabo and turn that axis into the new Tech hub for our younger ones so that we can use that area as our own new Silicone Valley,” he said.

He said the Rice Mill and other projects going on in the axis such as the new Mile 12 Market in Imota and Igbogbo-Bola Ahmed Tinubu-Igbe Road which would be extended to Gberigbe and environs, would further contribute to positively change the economic landscape of the axis.

“We are on the right course and that also is ongoing. We think with the provision of this industrial park and this rice mill and then the Commodity Market that is coming to Imota in addition to the major road projects that are ongoing in Ikorodu like the one we just visited which is the Igbogbo-Bola Ahmed Tinubu-Igbe Road that will also link Owu Elepe all the way down to the junction of this Imota Road and also extend in another few months once we get our Asphalt Plant back on track to Gberigbe, the economic landscape of this axis will be changed positively.

“What we are trying to send as a message here is that every nook and cranny of Lagos should become economically viable and also economically livable because people should be able to stay where they are and actually earn their own living and income in a very comfortable way and that is the whole essence of this and overall we will be able to grow our GDP and allow more people to enjoy dividends of democracy and also pay their taxes, perform their civic obligations and in a complete circle, that same money got from the taxes would be used to continue to renew infrastructure and allow more people to live a comfortable life.

“That is what Lagos wants to do; that is what we are committed to and that is the direction we are going,” the Governor said.

Earlier, Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Princess Jumoke Jumbo commended Governor Ambode for his commitment to the development of the Ikorodu division, saying such was obvious with various projects simultaneously ongoing in the axis.

“On behalf of the people of Ikorodu West LCDA, we just want to appreciate our Governor for your good gesture and the love you have for us in Ikorodu as a whole. Our people really appreciate you most especially for this road because it is already boosting the economy of our area and just yesterday, the wife of the Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode came to give our children school sandals and socks.

“We thank God for you coming from Lagos every time to Ikorodu to do one project and the other. All my people are interested in you coming back. Governor Ambode is already endorsed for second term and we pray you will come back to do more for us,” Jumbo said.

For Alhaji Atanda Samsondeen Ogunkoya, Chairman Ajagbade Koya Nigeria Limited, May 29th 2018 was a day of double celebration. The day usually marked nationwide as the Nigerian Democracy Day also happened to be the birthday of this Lagos Big boy who is a prominent figure in the Lagos Real Estate and Property sector. It was also a day of piety for Chief Ajagungbade who is a devoted Muslim as he also used the occasion to host Islamic clerics and faithful to a Ramadan Islamic Lecture. However, the day was not without its exciting points.

Chief Ajagungbade kicked off the birthday celebration at the Campos Mini Stadium Opposite City Hall in Lagos Island. His pet club, Ajagungbade Football Club took on Soccer City Football Club of Lagos in a celebratory football match in honour of Alhaji Samsondeen Ogunkoya who is a well-known football enthusiast and financial supporter. The match which kicked off at 11am, with friends, family and well-wishers of the celebrant in attendance. Also on ground to witness the match were Fuji maestro Alhaji Alao Malika, a former Lagos State Chairman of the National Road Transport Workers Union, Alhaji Oluhunwa and a member of the 8th House of Representatives representing the Orile-Iganmu Federal Constituency. The match made history when after ending in a goalless draw; it went into a marathon penalty shootout that eventually ended 18 to 17 in the favour of Ajagungbade FC.

From Lagos Island, the celebration team left a  motorcade for the Starlight Private School, Sari Iganmu, Orile venue for the Ramadan Lecture. Various Islamic clergymen took their turn on the podium as they preached and gave admonitions to the mammoth crowd present at the event on the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad and the Holy Qur’an. They also took time out to praise the celebrant, Alhaji Samsondeen Ogunkoya who is the Baba Adini Arafat Islamic Foundation. They described him as an uncommon giver who will spare nothing to bring succour to the needy and spend in the cause of Islam. They took turns to pray for him and his family.

Members of the Nigerian Nollywood were also on hand to felicitate with Ajagungbade whom they described as a benefactor and reliable friend. Among those present were Yinka Quadri, Abdul Ganiyu Olaiya, Alesh and a host of others.

The event finally came to a late end with the sharing of bountiful take-away food and drinks hampers that were shared to all present in the seasonal mood and spirit of Ramadan Kereem.

Innoson Admits To Spreading False Information About GtBank And Supreme Court Judgment

Innoson has today admitted that there was no Supreme Court judgement against GTBank.

After falsely claiming a victory at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Chairman of Innoson Motors, Dr Innocent Chukwuma has admitted to completely distorting the directive of the Supreme Court and publicly apologized for spreading fake and malicious news.

Innoson had earlier deleted his declaration on social media that the apex court has ordered GTBank to pay him N14bn within 14 days.

This was followed by a statement by his spokesman Cornelius Osigwe in which Innoson walked back from his false declaration stating instead that “There have been a lot of misinterpretations on the Press Release published by Innoson Group on the decision of the Supreme Court”.

This retraction, judicial analysts believe, was advised by Innoson’s lawyers who fear that contempt of court charges on defaming the Supreme Court may be brought against the embattled businessman.

Last week Thursday, Innosoncaused a social and online media storm by falsely claiming that the Supreme Court had ruled in his favour for GTBank to pay him N14bn. However, records of the court proceedings showed no such ruling.

GTBank had also advised the public that Innoson’s claims were “false, mischievous and malicious”.

“There was no directive or Order issued by the Supreme Court of Nigeria to the Bank to make any payment to any of its debtor Customers. We again reiterate that there is no iota of truth in the falsehood being peddled by desperate and mischievous elements and the General Public should disregard same in its entirety,” part of the Bank’s press statement read.

As facts on ground became clear that Innoson’s claim on social media was entirely false, the embattled businessman moved to silently delete the Fake News Tweet from his company’s Twitter Account.

On Monday, June 11, 2018, innoson apologized for misleading the public.

However, Nigerians did not take the company’s lies lightly.

“I cannot believe this, how can someone have total disregard for the highest court in the Land and go on a rampage spreading fake news. This Innoson and his team of lawyers and advisers have no shred of credibility” a Twitter user said.

Apostle Suleman Restores Kid Siblings Who Were Blind From Birth

Little Master David and Apostle Suleman

D uring His earthly mission, Jesus Christ performed spectacular miracles, to the admiration of His disciples and the people generally. And after His ascension, the Apostles continued in that fashion, so much that their shadows were said to have healed diverse ailments.

Back here in Nigeria, records have it that men of God in the likes of Apostle (Prof.) Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries (OFM) worldwide, are walking in the steps of Christ as, on the regular basis, God through them raises the dead, heals lepers and lunatics, the lame, just as the blind had their vision restored. Meaning, therefore, that the ability and power to heal and perform outstanding miracles did not disappear with Jesus and the early apostles.

Thursday, 7th of June, 2018, was another moment of glory at the OFM, as two children of the same mother who were born blind had their sight restored by God through the servant of God, Apostle Johnson Suleman.

The moment was defining and amazing for when the miracles happened, it moved to tears not just most members of the congregation, junior ministers of God present also cried because the miracle was too obvious given that it involved kids, especially a seven-month old baby.

“There is someone here who has a child that’s three years old and is blind,” announced Apostle Suleman halfway into the Thursday service. “I hear David,” he added just as he said “and the person has another child that’s seven months old; that child is also blind. I hear Isaac.”

Just as the servant of God made the announcement, a woman was seeing struggling through the church audience with two kids. “These two kids are blind, it’s a curse,” Apostle Suleman stated as the woman made her way to the front. As the mother confirmed that both little David, eleven years old, and Isaac, seven months old are her kids, Apostle Suleman offered to bless both of them.

“Lift the eyes,” he ordered the mother, as he pressed on the eyeballs of Isaac and prayed. “See!”, he thundered. “Father, you are a miracle worker. This is a child. This is innocent. Open these eyes. Let the eyes open. Let the eyeballs move; let the eyes be clear! Now, not tomorrow, now! In the name of Jesus.” Tap the child, tap the child, tap the child, he said repeatedly as the Baby Isaac in steady progress opened his eyes. The wonder was greeted by thunderous applause from the congregation, followed by songs of praise.

The celestial act was repeated on the older child, David, although his case was spectacular because his eyes were sealed, without eyeballs!

“With the kind of anointing that is here, you can’t be deceived by the Devil that you will go back home the same, that you will not be healed,” Apostle Suleman assured his audience, and all he did afterwards was ask God through Jesus to open the eyes.

“I believe in my prayer. If you don’t believe in your prayer, demons cannot fear your prayer,” Suleman opined as little Master David regained his eyesight.

Dangote Group, from Nigeria has emerged as the most admired African brand, of African continent origin, by consumers ahead of telecommunication giant, MTN according to the South African based Brand Leadership Movement in collaboration with the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE)

The Dangote brand which is also the leading brand in Nigeria came atop in the fresh ranking of 100 best brands in Africa themed “Brand Africa:100”, the sixth edition announced in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Brand Africa 100” was established in 2010, in recognition of the growth of African brands, which were beginning to challenge global brands in Africa or lead global brands in new categories such as telecommunications.

The aim of Brand Africa is to identify, acknowledge and promote African and global brands that are catalysts for Africa’s growth, reputation and value.

Describing the brand, “Dangote”, The Brand Africa revealed that the “Nigerian industrial brand Dangote is the number one African brand recalled when consumers are prompted about the continent (Africa) of origin while the South African tele-communications brand MTN is the number one African brand spontaneously recalled irrespective of continent of origin.

The United States sports and fitness brand, Nike, is the overall brand in Africa spontaneously recalled by consumers.

The Brand Africa 100 ranking is based on a survey among consumers 18 years and older, conducted in 23 countries across Africa.  The countries, representing all African economic regions, collectively account for 75 per cent of the population and the 74 per cent of the GDP of Africa.

Chief Corporate Communication Officer of the Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina said the management was not surprised at the ranking because the company has continuously deepened and delivered on its core values. The focus of the company, according to him, is to be a world-class enterprise that is passionate about the quality of life of the people and giving high returns to stakeholders.

“And this philosophy is driven by values, which include customer service, entrepreneurship, excellence and leadership. In any of our subsidiaries, the focus is to provide local, value-added products and services that meet the ‘basic needs’ of the populace. Through the construction and operation of large scale manufacturing facilities in Nigeria and across Africa, the Group is focused on building local manufacturing capacity to generate employment, prevent capital flight and provide locally produced goods for the people.

“The expansion of our business especially the Cement which has operations in 14 African countries including Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa and Zambia, among others has added to popularity of our company and the products, Chiejina stated.

African brands rose slightly to account for 17 per cent of the Top 100 brands in Africa, non-African brands retained their firm position in Africa with 83 per cent share of the Top 100 most admired brands in Africa.

Brands from Europe leads the table with 40 per cent, North America at 24 per cent and Asia 19 per cent.  West Africa 6 per cent, with only Nigerian brands and Southern Africa per cent.

The Top 100 is dominated by technology and electronic brands (29 per cent), consumer (non-cyclical) (19 per cent), apparel (15 per cent), automobile (8 per cent), food (7 per cent) and sports & fitness (5 per cent) categories are the top categories.

“Overall, the 2017/18 Brand Africa 100 list, which started out with over 15,500 brand mentions covering over 2,200 admired brands, illustrates a very diversified portfolio of categories and brands in Africa.

Thebe Ikalafeng, Founder and Chairman of Brand Africa and Brand Leadership.  Said “African brands have an important role in helping to build the African brand,” says These rankings are an important metric of the progress Africa is making in creating home-grown world-class brands that are changing the narrative on African competiveness, image and reputation and contributing to its socio-economic transformation.

“There is an incredible year-on-year consistency, with 60% of the Top 10 brands common among the Top 10 Most Admired African Brands and Most Admired Brands in Africa, led by Nigeria’s Dangote and Glo, South Africa’s MTN and Shoprite, Kenya’s Tusker and Ethiopia’s Anbessa.  Out of the 16 African brands in Top 100 in 2016/17, 6 exited and 7 entered the Top 100 in 2017/18.

“The The major change on the list is the status of the Safaricom/Mpesa brand.  Because Vodacom/Vodafone recently became majority owner of the business, in the 2017/18 tables the Safaricom/Mpesa brand was consolidated into the Vodacom/Vodafone brand.  Singled out, the Safaricom/Mpesa brand ranked 27, higher than the Vodacom/Vodafone brand, which is at #31.  Collectively, the Vodacom/Vodafone/Safaricom brand is now at #17…

“Safaricom/Mpesa remains a highly recalled ‘African’ brand among Financial Services and the Most Admired Brands in Africa.  Zimbabwe’s Econet made the most spectacular first time entry into the Top 100 at #40. After a long stay on the list despite its innumerable challenges, BlackBerry finally fell off the list as the brand exited the consumer markets.  On the other hand, Etisalat, which dropped 31 spots remains on the list of the Top 100 despite exiting Africa in 2017.

“The highest gains are dominated by apparel and lifestyle sport brands Ralph Lauren (+48), Versace (+41) and a resurgent Reebok (+43). The sports category, led by Nike (#1), remains a strong performer, due to strategic repositioning or expansion in their positioning towards lifestyle and high profile endorsements and partnerships which have freshened and broadened the brands’ appeal, particularly to youthful and young consumers.”

Oyo, Development Partners Seek IT Solution To Waste Disposal, Other Environmental Challenges

Dr. Bisi Akin-Alabi

The Oyo State government and development partners have concluded plans to explore Information Technology to tackle mounting difficulties in waste collection and billing system, indiscriminate refuse disposal and other environmental challenges confronting the country.

The Special Adviser to the state governor on Education, Dr. Bisi Akin-Alabi, disclosed this during a joint press conference by the state and its partners on the project, including leading waste collection company, West Africa ENGR Limited (WAEL), at the Technical University, Ibadan, on Wednesday.

To accomplish the task, Akin-Alabi said that the state had concluded arrangements with the partners to organize the first ever hackathon in Nigeria to address environmental issues besetting the country, which, she said, would be held at the university.

Also at Wednesday’s parley was the Managing Director of WAEL, Mr. Paul O’Callaghan, who disclosed that over 250 participants had already signified intention to participate in the competition.

According to Wikipedia, hackathon, also known as hack day, hackfest or codefest is a design sprint-like or marathon event in which computer programmers, software developers, graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, as well as experts on a subject matter brainstorm to develop software or application to solve a particular problem.

Tagged the ‘OYOMESI Festival of learning,’ she said that the weeklong event was opened to students of tertiary institutions, technology enthusiasts and other education stakeholders.

The governor’s aide said that participants would be expected to form clusters and peach based on ideas and tasks that would be assigned to them, which would be presented to a panel of assessors.

Specifically, she said that the hackathon was targeted at development of applications and IT solutions to tackle waste collection, billing and payment system, reporting of illegal dumpsites, city enumeration and management as well as recycling measurements and reporting.

According to her, the ultimate objective was to screen the chosen APPs and subject them to further development in relevant companies in the UK, which could be commercialized for use across Nigeria and other African countries.

Alabi said it was targeted at promoting learning as a lifelong activity necessary for all, as prescribed by United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Learning City Status, which was conferred on Ibadan in October 2016.

She said, “This event aims to promote learning as a lifelong activity necessary for all. This is in support of the UNESCO Learning City Status conferred on Ibadan in October 2016. As such, other zones in the state must become Learning Neighborhoods, whilst we strive to achieve the qualifying criteria for a UNESCO Learning City Progress Award.

“The Festival of Learning will allow a wider audience of teachers, educators and businesses to collaborate and network on new approaches to classroom practices. At the end of the programme, participants are expected to be full of ideas to inspire their pupils.

“It is an opportunity to market products and engage with other stakeholders. It will afford participants the opportunity to also attend and participate in various workshops that will take place during the festival. ”

“This event is a high-energy, all-night, problem-solving session to imagine and develop IT solutions that directly respond to a variety of specific environmental management challenges; specifically, waste collection billing and payment system, reporting of illegal dumpsites, city enumeration and management, as well as recycling measurement and reporting.”

She disclosed that the three top ideas from the event would attract the N2m worth of investment, with the top idea attracting N1m investment, while the first and second runners up will benefit from a N.7m and N.3m worth of investment respectively.

In a good will message, the Vice Chancellor of the Technical University, Professor Ayobami Salami, said that it was instructive that the festival of learning in the state coincided with the first anniversary of the university.

He said that the Technical University was established to proffer innovative solutions to human challenges on a daily basis, which, he said, was also the focus of the Hackathon competition.

I stayed for about 8 years because, no matter where I go my heart is always in Nigeria.

Since your arrival how would you describe your experience?

Well, so far so good. I saw a lot of nice changes especially in Anambra State. I was surprised to see that the state is one of the safest in Nigeria now thanks to chief Willie Obaino. People can move freely at any time now.

What inspired you to go into hospitality business?

OK, I’ll say that the major reason I went into hospitality business is because, since I was a kid I’ve always told myself that I’ll like to do something that will benefit people. So when I came back from abroad I thought of many business ideas, but later settled on building hotels and clubs. Because first it’ll employ many people, provide the people a place to rest and a place to enjoy themselves. You can imagine my joy when I see people propose to their girlfriends every week at my club. It also gladdens my heart to see happy couples coming to my hotel for honeymoon. There are so many positive experiences but I can only name a few.

How were you able to build New World Hotel and Las Vegas Night Club into one of the most popular tourist destinations in Anambra State?

I’ll say it all boils down to good service. We always make sure that our customers are well treated. That keeps them coming back. Next is security. I’ll say that our place is one of the safest places people can lodge or club with rest of mind. Then the types of events we host to appease the customers matters too. People love our activities such as, the white party, which attracts the high and the mighty in Anambra State. We also hosts Jersey party which involves people coming out wearing their clubs’ jerseys. I’ll say it’s been one of the most successful parties hosted in Las Vegas night club. We also do champagne Night, which as the name implies is all about champagne. We have 30 queens, where we host reigning pageantry winners from across the state. There’s also Arabian nights where the biggest boys and the biggest girls don Arabian attires. It’s really a sight to behold. We’re introducing two new parties, one is the Mask party which is coming up on Friday the 29th of June 2018, and the second one is celebrity night, which involves hosting popular celebrities once a month in the club. That doesn’t mean that celebs have not been frequenting our place. People like Terry G, D Prince, Vector, Nkoli Nwa Nsuka, Zubee Michael, Award winning film producer Lawrence Lurrenzo Onuzulike, Junior pope and host of others do visit our outfits.

How would you rate hospitality business in the Eastern part of the country, most especially Anambra?

I would say that my people are trying. Since the change in the security level of the state, hospitality business has surged dramatically. The biggest issue hindering growth is lack of electricity. I ran desel daily every year. It takes a lot from the business. But I don’t think that’s just an Anambra issue. I think it’s more of Nigeria’s issue.

It’s no doubt you’re a massive employer of youths. How has it been managing them?

I won’t lie to you, it hasn’t been easy. In every twelve apostles there must be a Judas. But we deal with them with patience and most importantly we train them always and ensure they know whats required of them at the work place. In all, I’ll say it’s God that helps us.

What are some of your plans in changing the face of hospitality business in Anambra State?

I won’t it call it plans because I’m already doing things to change the face of hospitality in Anambra State. I didn’t just build a hotel and a club and then went home to rest. Instead, I work with talented and creative people on a daily basis to keep dishing out fun activities and expanding our businesses to accommodate more customers and provide more jobs. Oh, let me add that due to the quality of our hotel and clubs and the standard we set, most people coming home from abroad like to stay and club with us.

Why did you choose to invest heavily in Anambra State?

If it was a few years ago, I won’t have taken the risk. But as I said earlier, when I returned to Nigeria I was shocked by the level of security in the state, again thanks to governor Willie Obaino. And also it’s my home state, they say Charity begins at home. If I don’t develop my state who will? It would’ve been a very big disappointment for me to travel abroad and see many things and not bring as much as possible back home, so that when white people visit Nigeria they will see that we are a modern society too. We can’t leave everything to the government.

What do you think of the current political situation in Nigeria?

In every positive there are some negatives, and in every negative there are some positives. I won’t say the current political situation is the best or the worst. I’ve learned to have some positives out of every situation.

What do you think of Governor Obaino’s leadership?

I think he’s trying. If you noticed I’ve mentioned security many times. It’s because businesses won’t thrive without security and he has provided that. Most people of Anambra State are very proud of him. But like I always said, we need power supply in the state, after security and good roads, power supply is very important. This is crippling many businesses not just only those in hospitality.

Do you think Governments at the state and the national levels deserved another term in office?

If I answer the question based on how I’m being favoured, then my answer will be biased. I’ll rather say it depends on Nigerians in general to decide. At this point I’m calling everyone to come out with their PVCs and vote for what’s better for the country and for my state.

From our research, we found out that

Abuchi Henry

people of Anambra loves you immensely because of your philanthropic nature. Do you plan to ride the popularity wave and join politics?

If I’m to follow the way people have been pushing me I would’ve been into politics long before now. c don’t know about the future but for now I’m more focused on providing jobs for the youths and doing things that will benefit my people.

A former President of the Nigeria Bar Association and one of the activists that fought for the revalidation of the June 12, 1993 elections, has said that the presumed winner of that year’s presidential election, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, appeared ‘too ambitious’ to rule.
Chief Olisa Agbakoba, who spoke in an interview with @punchng, added that it was Abiola’s wife, late Kudirat, who showed a sign of decency in the fight to reclaim the billionaire politician’s mandate.
Agbakoba also revealed that, late Kudirat Abiola and Maryam Babangida, the wife of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida who was the sitting president and friend of Abiola who denied him the right to rule, engaged themselves in physical fight in Aso Rock over the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Agbakoba said that

Olisa Agbakoba

Babangida had invited Abiola to Aso Rock for a meeting when the fight broke out between Kudirat and Maryam.

He said it took the intervention of their husbands and others to separate them.

“It was Kudirat who had a great sense of decency; Abiola was a bit a too ambitious in wanting to become president.

“He went to Aso Rock to meet with Babangida in the course of which Babangida’s wife and Kudirat started fighting.
“It led to a fight.
“Babangida and other people had to rush out to separate them.”

Food Addiction And Your Brain’s Reward System

$

If you’ve ever tried to cut back on junk food, you may have realized that it’s easier said than done.

People tend to get cravings when the brain starts calling for these foods.

Even though people’s rational, conscious mind “knows” that they are unhealthy, some other part of the brain seems to disagree.

Some people don’t have this problem and can easily control the types of foods they eat, while others don’t seem to have any control whatsoever.

If you are one of these people, despite your best intentions, you may repeatedly find yourself eating unhealthy foods, even when you have previously decided not to eat them.

Though you might think this is caused by a lack of willpower, the situation can be much more complicated than that.

The fact is junk foods stimulate the reward system in the brain in the same way as abusive drugs like cocaine.

For susceptible people, eating junk foods can lead to full-blown addiction, which shares the same biological basis as addiction to abusive drugs (1).

How Does Food Addiction Work?
How Food Addiction Works

There is a system in your brain called the reward system.

This system was designed to “reward” you when doing things that encourage your survival. This includes primal behaviors like eating (2).

The brain knows that when you eat, you’re doing something “right,” and it releases a bunch of feel-good chemicals in the reward system.

These chemicals include the neurotransmitter dopamine, which your brain interprets as pleasure. The brain is hardwired to seek out behaviors that release dopamine in the reward system.

The problem with modern junk foods is that they can cause a reward that is way more powerful than anything you can get from whole foods (3).

Whereas eating an apple or piece of steak might cause a moderate release of dopamine, eating a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is so incredibly rewarding that it releases a massive amount.

SUMMARYEating junk food causes a release of dopamine in the brain. This reward encourages susceptible individuals to eat more unhealthy foods.

This Can Lead to Tolerance and Withdrawal — the Hallmarks of Physical Addiction

When you repeatedly do something that releases dopamine in the reward system, such as smoking a cigarette or eating a Snickers bar, your dopamine receptors can start to down-regulate.

When the brain sees that the amount of dopamine is too high, it begins removing dopamine receptors to keep things balanced.

When you have fewer receptors, you need more dopamine to reach the same effect, which causes people to start eating more junk food to reach the same level of reward as before. This is called tolerance.

If you have fewer dopamine receptors, you will have very little dopamine activity and start to feel unhappy when you don’t get your junk food “fix.” This is called withdrawal.

Tolerance and withdrawal are the hallmarks of physical addiction.

Multiple studies in rats show that they can become physically addicted to junk food in the same way that they become addicted to abusive drugs (4).

Of course, all of this is a drastic oversimplification, but this is basically how food addiction (and any addiction) works.

This can lead to various characteristic effects on behavior and thought patterns.

SUMMARYFrequent consumption of junk food may lead to dopamine tolerance. This means that you will have to eat even more junk food to avoid going into withdrawal.

Cravings Are a Key Feature of Addiction

A craving is an emotional state, a desire to consume a certain food. It should not be confused with simple hunger, which is different.

Cravings sometimes seem to appear out of thin air.

You might be doing mundane things like watching your favorite TV show, walking the dog or reading. Then suddenly a craving for something like ice cream appears.

Even though the cravings sometimes seem to come out of nowhere, they can also be turned on by certain triggers, known as cues.

These cues can be as simple as walking past an ice cream parlor or smelling a pizza.

But they can also be turned on by certain emotional states, such as feeling depressed or lonely, a behavior known as emotional eating.

A true craving is about satisfying the brain’s need for dopamine. It has nothing to with the body’s need for energy or nourishment.

When a craving occurs, it can start to dominate your attention.

A craving makes it hard to think of something else. It also makes it hard to understand how on earth eating junk food could be bad for you.

It isn’t unusual to get cravings, most people do get them in some form.

But if you find yourself repeatedly giving in to cravings and eating junk foods, despite having previously made a decision not to, that’s definitely cause for concern.

For food addicts, these cravings can be so powerful that they cause people to break rules they set for themselves, such as only eating unhealthy foods on Saturdays.

In fact, they constantly overeat, despite knowing that it’s causing physical harm.

SUMMARYIf you regularly give in to cravings for junk food, you may be experiencing food addiction or emotional eating.

Cravings Can Sometimes Turn Into Binges

When you give in to cravings, you get your reward — a feeling of pleasure associated with the release of dopamine. The reward is what cravings and food addiction are all about.

People with food addiction get their “fix” by eating a particular food until their brain has received all of the dopamine it was missing.

The more often you repeat this cycle of craving and rewarding yourself, the stronger it becomes and the more food you need each time (5).

While four scoops of ice cream were enough three years ago, today you may need eight scoops to experience the same level of reward.

It can be almost impossible to eat in moderation when you are satisfying an addiction-driven craving.

That’s why it’s hopeless for people to just have a small slice of cake or a few M&M’s. It’s like telling a smoker to only smoke one-fourth of a cigarette to cut back. It simply does not work.

SUMMARYCravings and food addiction promote overeating, binging and obesity.

This Can Lead to Complicated, Addict-Like Behaviors

Over time, food addiction can cause severe physical and psychological problems.

Many people who have been struggling with food addiction for a long time keep their eating habits a secret. They can also suffer from depression and have a severely broken self-esteem.

This is compounded by the fact that most people don’t even realize that they’re addicted to food and simply think that they’re weak and undisciplined.

SUMMARYPeople experiencing food addiction often hide their behavior from friends and family. Depression and low self-esteem seem to play a role.

What to Do About it?

Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to addiction. There is no supplement, mental trick or magical remedy out there.

While some people may need to learn how to control their consumption, it may be best for others to avoid these foods completely. If you struggle with food addiction, it may be best to seek professional help.

Psychiatrists and psychologists can help. There are also organizations like OA (Overeaters Anonymous), which anyone can join for free.

Binge eating disorder, which is associated with food addiction, is currently classified as an eating disorder in the DSM-V, the official manual that mental health professionals use to define mental disorders.

Gumsu, one of the daughters of late military president, Sani Abacha, has slammed Prof. Wole Soyinka over his statement about her father.

It is recalled that Prof. Soyinka while speaking on Tuesday during the Special National Honours Investiture at the Presidential Villa, Abuja called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop confusing Nigerians and choose between late MKO Abiola and former military president, Sani Abacha.

He was quoted as saying, “I will like to appeal to you to stop confusing Nigerians. It is not possible to honor MKO Abiola in one breadth and praise his tormentor in another breadth.”

However, this did not go down well with Gumsu as she took to her Facebook page, slamming the Nobel Laureate over the comments he made about her father.

She said Soyinka’s hatred for her father will kill him.

“Wole soyinka oya na! Over to you!!

Wicked old hawk. Your hate for my father shall kill you,” she wrote on Facebook.

Man Kills Boss, Girlfriend, Says “He Owed Me 15 Months Salary”

The houseboy of a naval officer, Lieutenant Abubakar Yusuf, has owned up to killing his 35-year-old boss and his girlfriend, Lorraine Onye, blaming the crime on frustration.

After strangling Onye, a 300 level student, the suspect, Raphael Jaja, stabbed Yusuf to death, packed his corpse in a bag and took it to a bush where he set it ablaze.

The native of the Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area, Rivers State, said he decided to end the lovers’ lives cruelly because his boss allegedly refused to pay his 15 months’ salary, but could afford to buy an expensive phone for the girlfriend and pay N300,000 rent for her.

He said the naval officer had promised to help him save the salary – N15,000 per month – and pay him at once so he could use the money to plan his wedding. He said he felt bad when Yusuf reneged on the promise.

Reports had it that the naval officer killed his lover and took to his heels until recently when a discreet investigation conducted on the incident by DCP Abba Kyari-led Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team unravelled the mystery behind the crime.

It was learnt thatbthe investigation followed a report made by the father of the late naval officer to the police.

The detectives got a lead after tracing Yusuf’s mobile phone to Jaja’s friend in Port Harcourt. The friend, who bought the phone from Jaja, led the operatives to arrest the killer houseboy on Monday, June 4, 2018.

A police officer told our correspondent that Jaja confessed to the crime and led investigators to recover the carcass of the naval officer in the bush as well as the deceased’s Hyundai Veloster which he sold for N1.9m.

“We also recovered the naval officer’s phone which he exchanged with the friend in addition to N30,000,” the officer added.

While giving a shocking revelation about the crime in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday, 28-year-old Jaja narrated how he struck a relationship with his late boss and lived with him in his one bedroomed apartment.

He said “I am a technician. I have worked at Abuja International Airport. I returned to Port Harcourt in 2016 because my brother was ill. In July 2016, somebody introduced me to Lt. Yusuf that he wanted to install a DSTV. He was serving at the Navy Primary School in Port Harcourt. After I installed the DSTV, he told me to fix some wires. He was happy with the job I did.

“I told him I wanted to go back to Abuja, but he persuaded me to stay back and work for him. He gave me the spare key to his apartment and I started living with him. He promised to pay me N15,000 monthly and that he would pay all my money before my marriage slated for December 2017. He met his girlfriend sometime in 2017. Whenever she passed the night at the apartment, the lieutenant would ask me to sleep in a store in the compound.”

Jaja explained that he helped the late officer to execute two contracts worth N22.8m in September 2017 and he promised to give him a share of N2.5m. He said for ethical reasons, Yusuf did not use his name to secure the contracts, which involved supply of computers to technical schools.

“While I was preparing for my wedding, I asked him to give me N400,000; he said he had no money. I eventually borrowed N320,000 to do the wedding. In January 2018, I went back to him to ask for my money. He said he did not have money and that I was disturbing him. I stopped going to the barracks. In March 2018, he called me several times, but I did not pick his calls. When I later picked, he said he had a job for me. On getting to his office, he said he had given it to somebody else because I didn’t come on time. He laughed at me.

“I went to the barracks to help one of his colleagues fix a DSTV. On my way back home, Lieutenant Yusuf called me to help him take his decoder to the DSTV office for a reset. He gave me N1,000 transport fare. When I came back, he asked me to service his generator. When I finished, he gave me N1,000. I told him the money was small and that he was being unfair to me. I asked him to give me some money so that I could establish my own business to take care of my family. He said he did not send me to go and marry.

“The following day, he called me that the generator was not working again. He told me to buy N1,000 oil on my way to the barracks. After I fixed the generator, I asked him for payment, but he said he had given me N1,000 the previous day. I told him I collected the N1,000 because he was my boss.

“I asked for the money he was owing me again; he said he had no money and that I was disturbing him. He said he was also planning his wedding,” Jaja added.

He said that he began to plan Yusuf’s murder in April 2018 when the naval officer returned from Abuja with a new Hyundai Veloster. Jaja stated that he met with the deceased on April 30 and demanded to know why he refused to pay him.

Ajaja explained, “He said he did not send me to marry and that I should carry my cross. I went back to him the next day for the money. He asked me to help him prepare noodles. There was a drug, Tanlin, in my pocket. I bought it because of a dog that my neighbour, who just packed out, left behind. The dog was disturbing me and I wanted to give it the drug so that it would sleep off. I put a little of the drug in the noodles. I discovered the drug did not have any effect on him.

“On May 3, I went back to his house. I met only his girlfriend at home. We did not like each other, but I decided to be friendly with her that day. I asked her to tell me about her relationship with my boss. She was initially reluctant until I assured her I meant no harm. She told me that she and my boss were supposed to travel to Canada in 2017, but they couldn’t make it. She said he bought a phone for her and gave her N300,000 to rent a house.

“I was annoyed as she was saying all these. I asked her if she knew my boss’ phone password; she said she did not know it. I persuaded her to tell me his ATM card password and she did. I pretended that I admired her hair style and told her to turn her back. The moment she did so, I held her neck and strangled her. She was foaming. She died afterwards. I hid her corpse somewhere in the room and covered it with clothes.”

The self-confessed murderer said his boss did not suspect something was amiss when he returned from work in the evening, adding that the officer retired to bed afterwards. He said he unleashed terror on the boss around 4am while he was still asleep in the bedroom, stabbing him to death with a knife.

“I packed his corpse in a bag and kept it in the boot of his car parked on the premises. I cleaned the bloodstains on the floor, wore his uniform and drove the car out of the barracks. I drove the car to a village called Apani and dropped his body in a bush. I looked for a tyre and set his corpse ablaze. I burnt it so that nobody would be able to trace him.

“Still in the uniform, I drove the car to Benin, Edo State, where I sold it to one Alhaji. He did not want to buy the vehicle because I could not give him the documents. I convinced him that I am a naval officer and that he has no reason to be afraid. He bought the car N1.9m, but he was to pay me a balance of N120,000 before I was arrested through a church member I exchanged my boss’ phone with in Port Harcourt,” he narrated.

The expectant father further revealed that prior to his arrest, he travelled to Lagos State to withdraw N250,000 in Yusuf’s bank account, adding that he sent a text message to Onye’s phone to implicate his boss and travelled back to Port Harcourt.

He said, “I withdrew the money in Lagos so that the police would focus on tracking the withdrawals to the state. There was a day my boss and Onye were arguing over their relationship. He told her that his father had already got him a woman he would marry.

So, I exploited that argument to send a text message to her phone, stating that my boss killed her. I killed them out of anger. It was not intentional. All I want is forgiveness.”
